Torsion Meter

D’Osualdo-Corazza’s torsion meter is a manual tool for the assessment of the degree of rotation of the trunk in a standing position.
It is made up of an arc base with a vertical telescopic staff attached to a base with a mobile piece with an arc shape parallel to the base which has a graded scale.

The analysis of a patient with an assumed scoliosis is carried out with the patient standing at attention. The base of the tool is placed adjacent to the sacrum; thus a zero plane is established, and the alignment of the trunk considering the transverse plane will be read accordingly at any desired level. When the mobile piece is also placed adjacent to the back it will slide for some degrees in accordance with the torsion of the trunk. A scale will indicate accurately the degrees of the rotation.

Since it is a perfectly non-invasive tool, it is very practical and ideal for its use in a consulting medical office of a specialist (physiotherapist, orthopaedic specialist) as well in the physiotherapy gym to study the movements.
